Established in 1940 as a Nagasaki Prefectural Shrine, Tachibana Shrine is dedicated to Lieutenant Colonel Tachibana, who is honored here for his historical significance.
In spring, approximately 1,000 cherry trees line the approach to the shrine,, creating a tunnel of blossoms that attracts many visitors.
At the end of the year, a giant kadomatsu (traditional New Year’s pine decoration), standing about 11 meters tall and recognized by Guinness World Records, is displayed and illuminated through the night to welcome the New Year.
